Maternity Photographer Seattle Tacoma Gig Harbor Marketa 5 682x1024
I love being a maternity photographer!  Being a part of moments that change peoples lives is kind of awesome.  Marketa is due with her first child in late December.  Photographing her I couldn’t help but think of my own “Christmas” pregnancy.  Mothers fear having babies in December so close to the Holidays.  But it is so wonderful.  Our Christmas baby made our holiday experience so much richer.  I felt so warm inside during the December cold carrying her.  There is something about knowing you are nurturing a tiny life in your womb that makes you glow.  (forget hormones and science)  Marketa glows as she carries within a miracle.

“Like a snowflake awe-inspiring and unique,

a newborn babe enthralls both young and old,

reawakening a slumbering belief in miracles.”

Holiday Magic {Newborn Photography Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}

snow girls 1024x682 Holiday Magic {Newborn Photography Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}
Every once in a while I have to take a break from being a newborn photographer to spend a minute or two creating some magic with images of my own brood.  I love these girls.  They make me smile every day.  They live in a world full of make believe.  Watching them dance and sing and care for each other is a gift.  I love to take their picture.  So that just like they are immortalized here in this snow globe I will always remember.  My daughters are precious the are my happiness.

Sacrifice {Newborn Photography Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}

Maternity photographer seattle tacoma gig harbor Elizabeth 4 Sacrifice {Newborn Photography Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}
You make have thought with a header like “sacrifice” that this blog was going to be all about a difficult pregnancy and hard life choices.  Nope.  Usually maternity sessions are super easy and fun.  Elizabeth’s maternity photography session was COLD!!!!  This was me, “I know that it is cold (like 30 something degrees), and wet, and the rocks will be totally uncomfortable.  I know you are freezing your butt off, and there are wet slimy leaves all over the ground.  But you will love this portrait  it will be totally worth it!”  I took it as quickly as possible and then we pulled poor Elizabeth up to wipe off the wet sand clinging to her goose bumps.  But hot dang, if she doesn’t love this stunning image of her celebrating this amazing time in her life I will eat my shorts.  SERIOUSLY!  Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little to get the perfect shot.  (I was laying in the sand t0o in case anyone wants to feel sorry for me…but perfectly and warmly clothed;-)

Special thanks to Tina Boyd for being the inspiration behind this beautiful pose.  Sure wish we had some California-ish beaches around here.  Also learned a little lesson-the Washington ”sound” coast line is so convoluted the sun does not “always” set behind the water.  I should have know better.  Rookie “location photographer” mistake.

Soul {Baby Photographer Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}

Baby photographer seattle tacoma puyallup Jaxton 12 Soul {Baby Photographer Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}

I was so in love with this portrait from Jaxton’s baby photography session that I had to share it last night with some photographer colleagues.  I loved what one of them said.  ”It is so soulful.”  That is exactly what it is to me.  I love the deepness you see in his eyes.  I love serious “thinker” babies.  It is mesmerizing to see their little gears turn.  Jaxton was fascinated (and a little afraid of my light).  He kept looking over at it knowing that it was about to get bright.  That level of awareness for such a young soul is so amazing.  I know parents always want to get that perfect photograph were their little ones are smiling.  I try super hard to make your babies comfortable so that they can feel like it is safe to smile.  But children aren’t always smiling.  ”Smiling” may not be who your child is.  While I aim to succeed in capturing those prized smiling moments, images like these are my favorite.  This is what moves me as an artist.

So on that note…we go from soulful to birthdayliscious happiness (if you only knew)….

Then and Now {Newborn Photographer Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}

Then and now Then and Now {Newborn Photographer Seattle Tacoma Puyallup}
I love then and now portraits.  It is a special treat to be a woman’s maternity and newborn photographer.  I love that I get to know a family and have fun with them during a maternity session and then celebrate with them when they come back with their newborn baby.  A picture truly can say 1,000 words.  In the before portrait Krissy is smiling, full of excitement and anticipation.  In the after portrait she is contemplative, awash with happiness and contentment.  She looks down in thoughtful awe at her daughter, her greatest accomplishment!!  Her pats of love on her swollen belly have been replaced with cooing in a daughters ear.  What a blessing motherhood is.  Congratulations Krissy!  You are a mother now and your heart has been opened to love more than you ever thought possible;-)
