Baby mine, don’t you cry
Baby mine, Dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine
Little one, when you play
Don’t you mind what they say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine
If they knew sweet little you
They’d end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they’d give just for the
right to hold you
From your head down to your toes
You’re not much, goodness knows
But you’re so precious to me
Sweet as can be, baby of mine

This has been my favorite lullaby ever since I was a little girl and first saw Dumbo. How is it that a man can so perfectly write about the way I feel as a mother? When I am doing a maternity session I try to not only document a beautiful belly but the joy of pregnancy. It is harder to capture the deep emotion involved with expecting a newborn. I wanted to try and capture something special during this maternity session. This Mom is a friend of mine and she is so kind and gentle. I knew she would be the perfect model to try and capture the mood I was looking for. I wanted to capture in some small way the way an expectant mother feels. The love, anticipation, even trepidation – thinking about what is to come and the weight of responsibility. I asked Rachel to think about these things as she looked out the window, the future…I think we captured something really special. When I look at this portrait of her I remember the feelings I had as an expecting mother and I feel the sweet emotions that stir when I sing my favorite lullaby.
Sara Wilihelm - I just LOVE this photo. You can really feel the emotions here. Rachel looks so beautiful. GREAT capture!
