Renaissance Muse

Maternity with draped clothSarah came to see me for her maternity photography session from my old stomping grounds in Dupont.  I was so excited that she chose to have maternity portraits.  It has been a long time since I have gotten to create stunning images for a mommy to be!  I missed it.  When I think about my “maternity portrait style” I know exactly what I want it to be.  I want it to be like the beautiful Renaissance sculptures I grew up seeing in Italy.  My Mom and Dad bless their hearts dragged me from museum to museum, to cathedral to cathedral.  Everywhere, I was immersed in the artistic awakening that was the Renaissance.  I grew up with the art of the masters.  Their favorite subjects were women.  And not the super model, waif thin idea of woman we celebrate today.  The women that were muses to the masters had curves and the men that painted them, the men that sculpted every curve and fold made them Goddesses eternalized by there artistic expression.  A woman’s form is perfection.  The curves of a woman’s body ebb and flow lulling your eye into a trace until you have been wooed by her beautiful form.  I haven’t captured an image like this ever.  I love it so much I keep pulling open Sarah’s folder so I can see it again and again.  I am absolutely head over heels in love with the simple feminine beauty captured here.  Sarah you couldn’t possibly be any more beautiful;-)
